    EMOTIONAL ABUSE IS SERIOUS:

DID YOU KNOW???   GEORGIA and WASHINGTON do not include emotional maltreatment as part of their definitions of abuse or neglect for children in their statues.  WHY IS THIS?  Emotional abuse exists ...Children need to be protected everywhere it should not matter what state they live in ......People need to be aware of their laws which govern their states and effect the children..

Re: Child And Domestic Violence Support Group

HELLOOOOO Finally I am on this site! Joann here and I made a new name lol. Thank god I can be on here now.

I want to say that it is shameful that ANY STATE in this country would not think or recognize Emotional Abuse as a crime or being just as bad if not worse than physical abuse. Too many people in todays society still think "well theres no physical scars so the kid is alright." NO 110% NOT THE CASE. Words hurt, words do damage, name calling repetative badgering, putting down, cursing at, making the child feel like a bad person, is all part of this horrible CRIME. Because that is what it is.. CRIME.

Children are our most precious asset in this world. Until abusers pay a harsh price, until they are punished to the fullest extent of the law, and not let off in a couple of months, or given a slap on the wrist..this tragedy will continue.

Jodi, lets keep fighting this fight. Lets keep getting the word out. I am here and staying. The old saying " Stick and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me IS NOT TRUE. LETS ALL DO WHAT WE CAN to help innocent children TODAY.    ~ Joann Read

THE FOURTH DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL RULED SEPTEMBER 1,2006 ON THE MUNAO APPEAL THIS APPEAL WAS ENTERED PUBLIC LESS THAN SIXTY DAYS FROM THE APPEAL ON 7-11-06.

THE CHILD ABUSE CONVICTION WAS THROWN OUT............

5 YEARS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF MUNAO'S SENTENCING

MUNAO STILL HAS PARENTAL RIGHTS TO HIS CHILDREN.......

FLORIDA STATE STATUE FOR CHILD ABUSE.....IS TOO VAGUE!

ORAL STATEMENTS ALONE UNDER THE LAW CANNOT CONSTITUTE CHILD ABUSE...........

Re: Child And Domestic Violence Support Group

Hi my name is Joann Read, as a board member on this great organization as well as a mother and Sheriff Deputy, I am sickened and saddened by this appeal decision.

Once again judges and the court decision made a grave mistake, and the cost will be many many children continuing tobe ABUSED. VERBAL & EMOTIONAL ABUSE IS ABUSE..alot of times WORSE than physical abuse.  It is COMMON SENSE that is someone tells an innocent child to go get a knife and kill his motherthat is traumatizing, abusive, and will damage the very soul of a child for years if not forever.  It will lead to a damaged adult, who might not know anythin but abuse and not even realizing it starts to abuse him/herself.  Thats alot of the exact reason there is so much doemstic violence.  Men especially see that happen to thei rmothers growing up.  How any one can disagree with that is beyond my belief.

I go to many calls where there is alligations of child abuse.  Some are just parents who have slapped their child on the butt, to other who have beaten as a child.  ALMOST ALWAYS along with abuse, verbal abuse is accompanied with it.  Repetitive, continual, degrading, harassing, name calling, threatening, words or action is VERBAL & EMOTIONAL ABUSE...PERIOD.  Munao may now get out and be able to see his children again, and continue the abuse.  WHAT DOES THIS TEACH CHILDREN?  Keep being passionate about giving these innocent children a voice.  It takes a village to rasie a child has never been more true.  Let's keep on this site, let's get together for meetings, fundraisers, sign petitions, do marches, whatever it takes. Like the Jerry Maguire "WHO'S GOING WITH ME?  If one child is saved from this torment and abuse then we have done our job.  Lets show th esystem and the courts and goverment that if it is was there child ..grandchild, niece or nephew etc.  They would think differently.  Same with sexual abuse..people think "well the kid will get over it".  He /she is not really hurt, it will pass.  THAT IS WHY SEX OFFENDERS ARE IN THE THOUSANDS LIVING IN PALM BEACH COUNTY...thats why people who have stolen 1,000 worth of goods from a store can do more time that a sexual/predator dirtbag.  TOUGHER LAWS stricter punishment.  These abusers will never change or get better.  And until we show them that they will not get out, and they WILL NOT have awesome food great entertainment tv's radios, all the amenties like a freaking hotel then maybe they will think about it...if only for a second.

THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT.  "JUSTICE WILL NOT BE SERVED UNTIL THOSE AFFECTED, ARE AS OUTRAGED AS THOSE AFFECTED''(Benjamin Franklin)

Re: Child And Domestic Violence Support Group

    Jodi,

I am so inspired by your mission to modify the child neglect/abuse statutes to include emotional abuse.  I am a volunteer Guardian ad Litem in Martin County(www.guardianadlitem.org) and have been very concerned about the failure to address emotional abuse of children in this state.

I am not an attorney so please be patient with me.  As I understand it, the law of the state of Florida, and the set of precedents laid down from it, consider abuse to have taken place only if there is physical abuse.  As you and I know, this definition is woefully deficient for the authorities to use in protecting our children.  Although your "CITE RED" acronym is a challenge to remember, these points seem to cover the gamut of emotionally abusive behavior and need to be written into the state's definition of abuse.

I understand you are working with Rep. Harrell on drafting a bill to accomplish his.  Personally I would like to see the law written very broadly so that all of these behaviors are identified as abuse.  Should I direct my thoughts on this to Rep. Harrell or would you prefer that I include them in a forum?

Please let me know how I can help you accomplish your mission.  I assume you have access to my e-mail address so that you can respond(I am new to forums).   Thank you so much for all your hard work.
