GREAT SUCCESS for VAWA funding.  HOUSE PASSES $10 MILLIONINCREASE FOR  VAWA FUNDING!  This first amendment was supported by Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) , the House offered amendment to increase and was passed by voice vote.  There are still two more amendments that still need to be addressed by the HOUSE   INSLEE(D-WA) amendment to help children who have wtinessed domestic violence or have suffered from domestic violence .  THe other amendment is supported by DELAURA(D-CT) this amendment would increase funding for Sexual Assault Serivces Programs.

PLEASE  CONTACT CONGRESS..............SAY ....YES..... TO INSLEE/ DELAURA AMENDMENT .........YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

    Jodi,

I am enraged after reading your story....both at the fact that the father still has parental rights and the fact that the state seems to have done nothing to help.  I also live in Florida, and quite frankly, I am embarassed.  You can turn on the television at any time of the day and watch the lengths that Florida law enforcement will go to for the protection and prevention of animal cruelty!  Don't get me wrong, I am an avid animal lover...I think that it is great that finally these poor, defenseless creatures are taken care of.  But, children of abuse are not given the same focus.  Oh, it has been said in the news that we are just too understaffed in the DCF system for the case workers to have enough time to make visits and complete file work on time.  How is it then that I see law enforcement make  2 and 3 visits in a matter of two weeks time to see if the animal owner is complying with taking care of an animal.  I wonder, does the government in Florida think that they should devote more time to protecting children?  It seems to me that action needs to be taken.  What about the children of verbal abuse?  The laws state, rather vaguely I might add, that our children that have been verbally abused do not qualify for any support from the state.  This is a travesty!  We have for years donated money for cancer research, research to cure paralysis, and many others.  It is time that we lobby to effect a change and help to cure the effects of emotional abuse.  It starts with the abuser.  We need stiffer laws to discourage the predators from the emotional torture they inflict.  I am glad that you are public with your efforts, Jodi, and I commend you for your courage to speak out!

I encourage all those writing to this website to help effect a change...together we can stand strong and Jodi's voice can be heard!  Please, if you are taking time to respond to this website, write your lawmakers.  Help be a part of a change!  Help our children!!

Concerned  citizen and Child's Cry for Help supporter,

    SO TRUE

People don't realize sometimes.....as I have stated before if you do not SEE .....the abuse therefore it is not recognized......and can be ignored .....if you do not have proof than people do not believe you......it all seems like a game......but the victims know what is happening.....they are living the nightmare that plagues their lives daily.  It is not easy and usually is never an isolated incident....however, the courts only focus on the isolalted incident.  "emotional abuse is an assault on a child's psyche, just like physical abuse is to the child's body", yet emotional abuse is the most difficult to identify and stop. Emotional abuse has long lasting effects on a child's development and can effect a child a lifetime.  No matter what the abuse is ......it must stop ................all children of abuse need help ...and I do agree that we need to protect our children and provide assistance to these children who have suffered from  abuse.

    Re: APPEAL

Yes it is true ...emotional abuse is hard to prove.....like anything else if you do not see the scars......the cuts.. the bruises ....one may doubt if it happened at all........

Emotional abuse is swept under the carpet.......but Emotional abuse is so severe......regardless of what happens.....Florida clearly has a problem with their child abuse laws ..........I have received many letters of others who are fighting the Florida legal system and DCF allowing their innocent children to go with their abusive parent.........It is sad ....IT IS TIME FOR FLORIDA TO REALIZE WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE .............................................

    Re: APPEAL

    EMOTIONAL CHILD ABUSE IS SERIOUS:

DID YOU KNOW???      GEORGIA & WASHINGTON do not include emotional maltreatment as part of their definitions of abuse and neglect for children.... in their statues.  Why is that?  Every state statue differs concerning this issue .....It is very important that people are aware of their laws that govern their state.....even if it doesnot effect you today.... it effects the children within these states...and their well-being.

    Re: APPEAL

    Hello to everyone,

I want to take an opportunity to introduce myself to you all.  I am one of the board members for "Childs Cry For Help".  I am sure if you are viewing this, then you are all aware of the recent appeal results that have overturned the conviction of Edward Munao for Child Abuse.  The reason, basically, is that the current law in the State of Florida concerning child abuse is written too narrowly to include mental or emotional abuse of a child.  Rather, it does not define what constitues mental or emotional child abuse.  That is why this issue is of utmost importance.  There needs to be a clear definition for lawmakers and citizens to be able to determine which actions may be detrimental to children in the area of emotional and verbal child abuse.  Every child is entitled to grow up without physical or mental harm from all those included in their care.  Children should not ever have to hear the words, or better yet, even understand the words, "Go into the kitchen, get a knife, and kill your mother".  Please help us in our organization's fight to make laws clearer, so that children may live a life free from this very real form of abuse.

Thanks to all of you that have already been supporting our cause.

I hope to read more comments in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Darlene Tellier

Board Member "Childs Cry For Help"
